6.22 forecast

Good morning everyone!

First, I'd like you to meet a kayaker named "JB". He didn't have the courage to use his name or email address, and left this gem of a comment on my website yesterday: "Maybe you should consider your river data and then boaters would actually care what you say. Your gauges are inaccurate and not the right readings that anyone pays attention to or cares about." (actually, I use the same gauges as the Kayak Shed) JB, here's how your mom would like you to say that: "Hi Temira, thanks for all the information. I've noticed that your river levels aren't that accurate. Here are the links I use. *link* *link* *link* Hope they help. Thanks again, JB."

Now, wasn't that nicer?

With that off my chest, I present today's forecast:

Today will be another breezy day with clouds burying Hood River early this morning as an upper trough crosses the Norhtwest. The early morning gradient was at .08, and that shold climb a bit as the day goes on. Wait for the clouds to break up a bit, and then watch for 23-25 from midday onward from Doug’s out to Arlington.

High pressure builds over Oregon and off the Oregon coast tomorrow, shutting down gorge winds and firing up coast westerlies. You won’t be sailing on the Columbia, but you could kite or windsurf at Florence on Tuesday. 20-25 with a 5 foot swell is the forecast. Do keep in mind that’s it’s not going to blow on the coast Wednesday, so you’re looking at a one-day trip.

Tomorrow is officially national wakeboard with Cathy Carter day!

Wednesday is looking light at both the coast and in the Gorge. Plan for an alternative Gorge activity… maybe mountain biking Falls Creek, Road biking up some big hills, Kayaking some whitewater, or rock climbing at Area 51… many thanks to Paul and Kay for all their hard work out there!

If you need something to do this evening, remember there’s free Tai Chi at Wilson Park in Hood River. That’s 6-7 pm, and beginners are welcome. Also tonight is the hammerhead bike ride from Mountain View cycles. 5pm at the shop. Finally, tonight at flow yoga in Hood River there’s a free presentation on crop circles.

Hmm....

Whatever you do today, have an awesome day (and keep it positive!)

Temira-

Apparently JB has some issues, or just needs a hug, or better yet, his initials turned around....

I think you are doing an AWESOME job. Your website is the FIRST source that I use. I even drove two hours to Arlington yesterday based on your forecast. Now, that is trust.

Thank you for the great service you are providing. Not only do you get it right, you deliver with charm and well written and interesting verbage. Keep up the great work!

(My mom would be so proud of this comment post of mine)

Doug's was 3.7 not 4.0 while you were driving by at noon for iW, LOL. At least for me....

Wow, "JB" is a real keeper.... yup, keep him on your killfile list. The dude is probably the most root'n toot'nist, most awesomist paddler that ever graced this planet.... yup, he's in need of perfection.

"JB" prolly cringes at ordinary folks like me who appreciates you posting those (approximate) river levels when they changed the last few months, so I don't kill myself when attempting to float down the Wind River using my daughter's pool toy.

Thanks T

Hey Temira,
The Wall was very nice yesterday. 4.0-3.7 for the big boys, 3.4-2.9 for the lighter folks, not too gusty and decent swell at least from 2-5ish (when I was there).

So here's the question: the preferred and always popular signal 41 launch is closed due to removal of the nasty spikey invasive weeds and adding of pretty native species. Which is nice, but... do you have any ideas how long is this going to be closed? Rumours ranged from weeks to forever. Meanwhile the first launch/cove was way over crowded with cars and trucks parked into every nook and cranny and probably crushing other native plants. I couldn't help but notice park rangers stopping to take pictures of the parking situation several times during the day. I suspect they might be considering parking restrictions there as well. Which would leave us with not so many options on the WA side of the wall. If so we need to get an the ball here rather then wait for no more access.

And keep the forecasts going girl!

Thanks - ben

Temira, aren't you glad you opened up your blog to comments again? ;)

Hey, here's an idea...install a chat room in here! Real-time flame wars and everything... Great fun.

Keep up the good work; your forecasts are greatly appreciated.
