Good morning everyone. I hope you had a great day on the water yesterday. I blew it. I didn't make it to Arlington yesterday afternoon for the 38mph average winds. I've made a pact with myself... trust my own forecast. That way I don't end up sitting around waiting for the wind to blow. I truly didn't expect 38 at Arlington, especially not that late in the day, so I didn't even check the crack-box-pager-phone-thing. Hopefully one of you caught that epic session!
Now, on to today, the final day of the mount Hood Cycling classic. It's the Criterium: Very fast racers ride in a tight pack around sharp corners. It’s great fun to watch, if you can stand the sight of carnage!
The racers will get a light wind day, and that’s a good thing for crit racing. It’s not so good for windsurfers and kiters. An upper level low off the coast sends marine clouds into Portland, but limits gradients. We have upper teens to start, with some downslope low twenties at Doug's this morning (by the way, the Doug's sensor appears to be reading low this year and the Rowena sensor appears to be reading right on - that's at iWindsurf, by the way... click on their ad above for 10% off for new members. I believe the actual link is iWindsurf.com/temira, but I'm not sure.... just keep refreshing the page). A huge lull in the winds midday today is followed by a weak rebound, 14-18 or so, late this evening..
Weak high pressure builds at the coast on Monday, for 16-20 westerlies in the Gorge. Tuesday is looking pretty light at this point.Quite frankly, the rest of the week is looking light, as low pressure dominates the picture at the coast. It's possible we'll see some wind, but we really need high pressure, even weak high pressure, to get things rolling.
If you’re still looking for wind in the next couple of days, you’re going to have to leave Oregon. Light southerlies are the call at the coast, with winds blowing in the 10-15 range, at best. Surfing might be a good idea, with small, clean waves in the 4-5 foot range.
I’m going to vote for a little road-biking cross training, instead of wind chasing the next few days!
Boaters, the Hood’s at 4.8 feet, the White Salmon’s at 4.2 feet, the Little White’s at 630 cfs and the Wind River’s at 500 cfs.
Whatever you do today, have an awesome day!
