Good morning Gorge sports fanatics. It’s day two of the Mount Hood Cycling Classic. The organizers could still use a few volunteers… you can get more information at mount-hood-cycling-classic dot com.
While you’re going about your sporting activities today, think of the cat 1 pro riders. They’re putting in 85 miles and 8500 feet of climbing. If you want to see the finish, it’s at Cooper Spur resort!
And if you're looking to be super sporty today, join the racers at the Hood River mini tri. Meet at the Hood River Event Site around 5:45 for a 500m swim, 7 mile ride, and 2 mile run. This is a casual event with no organizers. Just for fun. Starting next Sunday, this crew will be doing a swim under the Hood River Bridge. Once again, no organizers. Just a bunch of crazy Gorge people doing crazy Gorge stuff. I may have to join them! So should you!
Windsurfers and kiters , westerlies return to the Central Gorge by late today, hopefully before dark. Your best chance of 15-18 is at Stevenson, late this afternoon. By tonight, it’s going to be ripping windy in the western Gorge.
It’s dawn patrol tomorrow morning as the evil upper level low shifts east. We’ll see 23-25 early from Hood River out to Maryhill, assuming the marine clouds stay west of Hood River. By midday, we’ll have 27-31 from Hood River to Arlington, with the possibility of 30-35 from Doug’s to Maryhill. The only monkey wrench would be thunderstorms in the desert. Just stay in the central gorge if that happens!
The weekend looks windy, with marine clouds in Portland and sunshine out east. We’ll start off with 22-25 on Saturday and build from there, and probably see a similar setup on Sunday. Now that’s a fun forecast to give!
Boaters, the Hood’s at 5 feet, the White Salmon’s at 4.4 feet, the Little White’s at 670 cfs, and the Wind’s at 570 cfs.
Whatever you do today, have an awesome day!
