West winds drop off today as high pressure builds over the Northwest. Light wind this morning gives way to 14-17 thermals this afternoon. Tomorrow and Friday are looking glassy. in Hood River No windsurfing and kiteboarding in the Gorge those days. Now that the river’s at 57 degrees, wakeboarding and waterskiing are sounding like fun!
If you need your windsurfing or kiting fix, go coastal. It’s 15-20 in the north and 20-25 on the central and south coast. Waves are microscopic right now, so you’re not going to be throwing huge aerials, but… at least you’ll be on the beach, beating the 80 to 90 degree temps the next two days.
Mountain bikers, just because I can, I’m going to list all the open trails: Post Canyon, Syncline, Nestor Peak, Oak Ridge, Dog River, Kniebel Springs, 8-Mile and Surveyor’s Ridge! Word is that Surveyor’s is a bit dusty and Post is getting dusty, so do take the opportunity to ride during the next couple of days before the heat brings out the ball bearings.
Organized sports in the next couple of days include tonight’s sailboat races, along with Mountain View Cycle’s 5pm women’s only ride. Tomorrow is opening day for the Hood River Triathalon. Meet at the Event site around 545 for this for-fun mini tri: 500 yard swim, 7 mile bike and 2 mile run.
Boaters, the Hood’s at 5.2 feet, the White Salmon’s at 5 feet, the Little White’s at 800 cfs and the Wind River’s at 790 cfs.
Whatever you do today, and wherever you end up, have an awesome time at it!
