5/22 Forecast (forgot to hit "post" this morning)

Good morning Gorge sports fanatics. It’s the Friday before Memorial Day Weekend, and that means we have a lot to talk about.

First, I’ll get the wind forecast out of the way. It’s light wind again this morning in the Gorge as high pressure dominates the weather pattern. By late evening, thermals give us 17-21 in the central Gorge. Tomorrow looks a little stronger, with a 15-18 start in the corridor and a 21-24 finale at Rowena. Sunday looks like a repeat of Saturday, with a 17-19 start and 22-26 afternoon.

Coastal winds look good for the next three days as well. We’ll have 15-20 on the north coast, 20-25 on the central, and 25-30 on the south coast all weekend long. There’s a six foot swell rolling right now, so you’ll have waves and  wind.

If you’re a mountain biker, you’ve got perfect riding right now. To recap, open trails include: Syncline, Nestor Peak, Dog River, Oak Ridge, and Post Canyon. If you’re sad about the Whoop-die trail, be sad no more. There’s a work party next Saturday to start the rebuild.

Also on Saturday is a windsurfer work party at Doug’s Beach. That’s from 9am til noon.

Paddlers, no work parties for you. Just lots of water: The Hoods at 5.4 feet, the White Salmon’s at 5 feet, the Little White’s at 850 cfs and the Wind River’s at 900 cfs.

Whatever you do today, have an awesome day!
