Morning everyone! Can I have a prize? I've actually managed to post a forecast for the last seven days or so. It's some sort of record. Free coffee delivered at 5:45 when I get up to do the report? No? Aw... c'mon. It's 6:03 as I write this, and the coffee delivery didn't show up, yet again... Actually, I spent a good bit of the winter trying to convince Meadows to deliver me coffee at 4:45 so the snowphone would be perky, and they wouldn't go for it either.
Anyway.... (I clearly need coffee if I'm babbling along like that)
West winds started out light this morning, and they’ll fade as upper flow turns northerly later. At best, we’ll see 15-18 in the corridor until mid-afternoon. I would be surprised to see even that. Tomorrow looks like 21-25 easterlies.
I don’t know what to say about the wind yesterday. That was just plain strange. We were counting on an upper level trough crossing the state, and it took its sweet time, waiting until overnight to donate its wind-generating energy to the Gorge.I really thought it would be windy in the desert late, but the best wind was in the desert early. Can't figure it out... moving on....
If you need wind, go coastal You’ll have 15-20 knots in the north, 25 at Florence, and 30 plus at Pistol. There’s a 5 foot swell coming in, and that will build to 7 feet by Friday. With the coastal northerlies continuing through Friday, at least, the coast is the place to be the next few days.
If you’re staying here, your best bet is either whitewater boating or road biking. I know some people like riding in the wind, but I think no wind is best for biking. If that’s your idea of good road riding, you’re going to like the next couple of days.Go ride some big hills. It's good for your heart and your soul. Plus, everyone needs a little masochism in their life.
Mountain bikers, Syncline’s your best bet right now. I rode Mitchell Ridge yesterday after I gave up on the wind, and it was a muddy mess. For the trail’s sake, let it rest until tomorrow, when it should be just about perfect.
Whitewater addicts, your numbers: The Hood’s at 6 feet even, the White Salmon’s at 5.9 feet, the Little White’s at 1009 cfs and the Wind River’s at 1135 cfs.
Have a great day today, whatever you do!
