May 12 Forecast

This is getting crazy. The snow level’s at 3000 feet today, and will drop to 2500 feet by this afternoon. We’re see 4-7 inches of snow today on the ski slopes. If you need a powder fix - and this is going to be powder, not concrete - head to Timberline. Get the snow today, because snow levels climb to 6000 feet tomorrow and snow turns to rain. Crazy weather….

I know, it’s windsurfing and kiting season, not ski season…. And today’s going to be windy. An upper low crosses the Northwest today and high pressure builds from the coast. This setup is classic early season for the gorge, and we’ll see classic winds. The central Gorge will be cloudy, with some rain sprinkles and gusty winds in the 15-19 range.

Out east is really the place to be for consistent winds today. With upper flow southerly, Avery, Arlington and Threemile will be the best s pots. I think 30-35 is a reasonable bet today, all day, until dark. It’s only going to be 60 degrees at Arlington today, so dress warmly and don’t forget a themos of hot tea!

If you want wind sports, go today. A massive low pressure system rotates off the Oregon coast tomorrow, keeping Gorge winds light and Gorge weather wet.

That low pressure system brings rain, driving river levels up again. Right now, the Hoods at5.5 feet , the White Salmon’s at 5.03 feet, and the Wind River’s at 983 cfs.

Whatever you do today, have an awesome time doing it!
