5.5 Forecast (posted 5.4 pm, subject to change)

Good morning Gorge sports fanatics, and welcome to a sprinkly Tuesday in the Gorge!

If you head up to Timberline, you’ll be having a snowy Tuesday instead of a rainy Tuesday. They had _ inches of new snow overnight. Nuclear force winds last night dropped some nice powder stashes in wind-favored locations. However… there are still very strong winds on the slopes. High winds and weather conditions may affect lift operations today….

Whitewater boaters, Mother Nature’s free-flowing tears will make you smile today. All the rivers are rising rapidly with snowmelt from torrential rains and 6000 foot snow levels. The Hood River is at 1710 cfs, the White Salmon’s at 3.82 feet, the Little White’s at 647 cfs, and the Wind River is at 747 cfs.

Windsurfers and kiters, the front is passing. That’s different from Hermes passing, which is what you say after an awkward moment of silence. Anyway, the passing front will drive Gorge pressure gradients into the happy range. As the upper level low swings across BC and the front makes its way across Oregon, westerlies increase. Watch Avery and Arlington for gusty 28-32 mixed with rain showers. The corridor and Lyle should see 17-21, but expect very up-and-down conditions. Another wet-and-windy front moves in tomorrow, for afternoon winds in the 23-27 range. Tune in tomorrow for details.

There’s not much to say about mountain biking today. Trails are wet. Very wet. You and the trails will be much better off if you stay on the pavement today.

Whatever you do today, have an awesome time!
