First, the wind forecast. Light winds Friday morning climb under the influence of building offshore high pressure. By afternoon, we’ll see 15-18 from Stevenson to the Corridor. If you can make it an upper body rest day and ride your bike or go for a run or do the stairs or go skiing, you may want to. Why?
If you sail or kite Friday, Saturday’s wind will demolish your already tired arms. Coastal high pressure joins a weak frontal passage in the afternoon. Daybreak arrives with 21-24 in the Corridor and at Mosier, building to 28-32 from Hood River out to Arlington in the afternoon. It’s going to be a great opening day for the Hood River Yacht club! Sunday looks like 22-26, with more clouds and a stronger frontal passage shifting winds further east.
What does this mean for the rest of you? Road riders, Friday is your day to grind out some miles without brutal headwinds. If you want a road-ride challenge Saturday, join the Hammerhead crew for 2-plus hours of all-out road riding. Meet Saturday morning at 8:30 at Discover Bikes in Hood River to join the crew. If enough people show up to justify two groups, there will be a (really, really) fast ride along with a (more reasonably paced) slower ride.
Sunday’s group ride is the Cherry Blossom Ride in The Dalles. Visit cherryofaride.com for more information about this 30-100 mile cruise through the (hopefully) blossoming orchards of The Dalles.
Whatever you do today, have a fantastic day!
