4.23 Forecast

What a crowd at Doug’s Beach yesterday! The river’s at 50 degrees, so windsurfing season is officially open! Westerlies continue today, with early morning gradients at .10. Cloudy skies in Portland combined with sunshine in the desert drive afternoon winds into the 22-25 range. You’ll be on the water anywhere between Hood River and Roosevelt today. High temps in the 60s throughout the Gorge give you a total of 110 degrees. No excuses now!

West flow continues on Friday, with afternoon corridor winds in the 17-21 range. Strong high pressure builds off the coast Saturday, setting up the Corridor and near east for a 28-32 blasting! At this point, Sunday looks windy as well, but it depends on how far inland high pressure pushes. If you've been waiting for an excuse to come to the Gorge for your first weekend of the summer, Saturday's wind should be excuse enough.

On a slightly different windsurfing topic, it's going to be windy at the South Coast both Friday and Saturday. Saturday looks windy all the way from Seaside to Pistol. Unfortunately, the swell is only 5-6 feet. Some days that's enough for head-high, but most days, it isn't. My vote? Sail the Gorge on Saturday, and try to sail places that work well with strong current (The Corridor or Arlington, along with possibly Mosier). Doug's was psycho-chop yesterday.

Mountain bikers, it’s still too early in the season for high elevation trails, but we’re already seeing a little dust in Post Canyon. It’s still almost-epic conditions up there, especially on the New 8-Track trail and the borderline trail. Thanks to Mr. Dave Bisset and Jim Mudry for their 8-track slave-wage labor on behalf of all of us!

If you like Post Canyon, join us for tonight’s Post and Pint ride. Meet at Dirty Fingers at 5:30 for a lap around Mitchell Ridge followed by a Session on the shop couch.

Road riders, tonight is the Hood River Crit down at the waterfront. For just $15, you can zoom around in circles with a pack of people. If you haven’t tried crit, this is a fun and easy way to give it a shot!

Have an awesome day today, whatever you do!
