If you've been waiting for opening day of windsurfing and kiting season, your wait is over. Put that windsurfing gear in the car, throw some sunscreen in your gear bag, and grab your carpool partner (hey, it's Earth Day, and it's a good day for a carpool)!
The water temperature is 50 degrees, so you no longer have the cold water excuse.
We're starting off with a .12 gradient in the central Gorge today, along with .05 and .21 out east. As the front shoves the warm air out of the way today, gradients and windspeeds increase. It's already a gusty 26 at the Hatch, but that's a morning tease. Best winds this afternoon will be from Doug's to The Wall, and likely Arlington and Threemile, blowing in the 28-32 range.
Just a note: According to Ross, who drove the Gorge yesterday, all the spillgates are open at John Day and The Dalles. This gives wicked strong current at The Wall and Rufus. It should also kick up the swell size at Doug's, assuming it blows 30 or better (likely).
Changing the subject... i tried my new telemark bindings yesterday. They are the BEST!!!! Check them out: http://www.twentytwodesigns.com/axl/ While I was hiking up above Cascade, I saw someone skiing down Wy'East face on Hood. Amazing.
Have an awesome day today!
