Swap Meet today! 4.19

Happy swaMp meet Sunday everyone!

Windsurfers and kiters have another glassy day in the Gorge today, but you wakeboarders and waterskiers can drag the boats out of winter storage sheds. The river is at 48 degrees right now. That’s not frigid, but not warm either. Be prepared for the cold with a warm wetsuit, and skip the cross-channel swim for a while!

Winds stay calm in the Gorge tomorrow, but the central and south coast see north winds and 6 foot swell Monday afternoon. 20-25 is the call at the central coast and 30ish down at Pistol.

Your next chance at Gorge westerlies will be Tuesday afternoon. We’ll see a marine push combined with heat in the desert, but I’m waiting til tomorrow to call wind strength.

Skiers and snowboarders have a beautiful spring skiing day today. Overnight lows stayed above freezing at Meadows, so yesterday’s boilerplate ice should be gone-gone-gone. Just to be safe, have an extra cup of coffee or two and give the snow a chance to soften up. (Don’t forget your warm weather wax, and definitely stop by to check out the band on the deck today!) If you’re going in the backcountry, be aware that the avalanche danger on sun-exposed slopes is considerable. Be careful and cautious.

Finally, the kayak numbers: The White Salmon is at 3.25 feet. The Little White’s at 550 cfs, and the Wind River is at 605 cfs, perfect according to someone who was there yesterday.

Have an awesome day today, and enjoy the sunshine!
