Good morning everyone!
First, happy Birchat HaChammah: "Baruch Atah A-donai E-loheinu Melech Ha`olam Oseh Ma`aseh Breishit."
As promised, today is opening day of windsurfing and kiteboarding season. I know some of you have been sailing already, but today's the first day it's going to be warm enough and windy enough to draw out the crowds. Now... if only iWindsurf was forecasting and we knew it was going to be windy, right? (Just kidding, Stu and David and gang)
As of 5am we have .11/.15/.34 gradients and 31 mph at Arlington, which should be enough to get you packing your car for Arlington and Threemile. According to models, winds will only increase as the day goes on. I would not be surprised to see 35+ averages early afternoon. Combine that with highs from 65-70 today and you're looking at a decent day on the water.
For the skeptics, I'll let you know that the water temperature is 46 degrees. That's probably not warm enough to ditch the booties, but it's warm enough to satisfy the 100 degree rule and get you on the water today. Besides, you've been hanging out in sub-freezing weather all winter. You might as well warm up on the river today!
You'll find me windsurfing at Arlington this afternoon, after I finish a little work this morning.
As for you skiers, snowboarders and AT/Telemark people, you'll be happy to know that snow levels will be decreasing again, bringing some powder to the mountains. It's hard to make the call this far out, but so far Sunday, Monday and especially Tuesday are looking like good ski days.
Have fun on the water today, and happy windsurfing season!
