First off, you telemark skiers, I'm in love. No really. Look: http://www.twentytwodesigns.com/axl/ I've been debating between the Black Diamond 01 binding and the Hammerhead binding by 22 Designs, and this is the perfect compromise. I'm drooling on my keyboard.
Luckily, I won't need that frictionless pivot point today, because there's plenty of fresh powder available for the price of a lift ticket (or the price of my freedom to sleep in!). It's pretty warm on the ski slopes - 29 degrees at the base - but the temperature will drop several degrees as the day goes on. So, I think the skiing will be fantastic at both Meadows today and Skibowl tonight. Next year I'm buying a Skibowl spring pass to extend my night skiing season...
We're supposed to see 1"+ of precipitable water today, for 12-16" of new (falling temperatures will give us just over a 1:1 ratio), along with another .2" tomorrow, for a few more inches. This weekend, we'll see clearing skies and a settling snowpack, for the possibility of some backcountry skiing. If you're a powder hound, get it today and tomorrow, because we're entering a spring-like drying trend for at least four days after today.
Windsurfing and kiteboarding look probable this afternoon, if you're willing to make the drive east of Hood River. Once again, we're looking at a frontal passage, so this will be gusty, inconsistent wind (unlike the nuclear blasting on Tuesday), but sailable nonetheless.
Call it another opportunity for the Daily Double!
Have an awesome day today, everyone!
