Good morning everyone! Did you hear the awesome news? Mt. Hood Meadows installed a gondola to the top of Mt. Hood last night. It's so rad and burly that they're going to be able to run it in all wind and weather conditions. No more of this "high winds will affect lift ops" stuff. Instead, you'll just hop in the gondola. 10 minutes later, you'll be at the very top of Mt. Hood, ready to drop the cliffs and crevasses.
I wish.
April fools!
What's not a joke is the amount of snow we're going to get in the next 48 hours. A warm front/cold front combo packing a huge punch will move into Oregon today. We may see some heavy snow mixed with a little rain this afternoon before the cold front hits. When it does, look out. We'll see 2 inches of precipitable water value over the next 48 hours. Temperatures will be cold enough to make this more than 1 inch = 12 inches, giving us 2-3 feet of powder. Real powder, especially Thursday, if the temperature forecasts hold.
Windspeeds will drop compared to what they've been, probably averaging in the upper teens to low twenties at Meadows.
Given the snow forecast, I recommend you clear Thursday and find a way to ski somewhere. You may want to wear your beacon and ride with a partner. =)
If you'd like to windsurf, you'll be able to in the frontally-driven winds in the desert on Thursday. However, I think you'd be better off skiing all day Thursday. Enough snow will fall to cover your tracks. HRM lot and lift will be open, by the way.
The weather starts to clear late Friday, and this weekend will be sunny enough for gardening.
