I have a pile of papers on my kitchen table. This pile is my pitiful attempt at filing my taxes in the middle of Miracle March. Doesn't Mother Nature understand that the IRS needs us to spend just one day out of the powder? Apparently not.
If you need to file your taxes, today may be the day. That is, unless you like blue skies and sunshine while you're skiing the upper half of Mt. Hood Meadows. On second thought, do those taxes tomorrow. It's looking like windspeeds will drop today, allowing the entire mountain to open up for your riding pleasure. Honestly, I'm not sure how heavy the snow will be up there. Given the choice, I think I'd ride a snowboard today, as it's probably not going to be light and fluffy powder after settling for a day. That doesn't mean, of course, that Upper Heather and Cascade won't be lovely, especially under sunny skies.
The next few days present borderline snow levels. Tomorrow looks a little warm for snow at the ski resorts, but we're only expecting .25 inch precipitable water, so that's not a disaster, by any means. Snow levels fall again after tomorrow. For more excellent skiing and snowboarding. We're looking at another .25" Friday, Saturday and Sunday, along with another full inch of water value on Monday.
By the way, I'll be off in the Wallowas Sunday through Thursday doing some backcountry skiing and drinking my allotted single shot of tequila (I am the world's biggest lightweight, so one shot is almost too much!), so there will be no forecasts next week. My apologies, but I haven't had a vacation in 18 months, and I'm so ready! Maybe I'll come back so refreshed that I'll write a forecast more than every few days...
Windsurfers and kiters, I don't have much news for you. The next couple of days don't look very windy. It's probably time to break out the mountain bike and ride Syncline. Oh... you've been doing that all winter, haven't you?
Bob Greenberg is working to install a webcam at Rooster Rock. That way, we'll be able to watch all the self-destructive Portland windsurfers sailing in nuclear east winds. Seriously... the sensors at Rooster Rock are innacurate, and it would be great to have a webcam there. Please take the time to donate a little cash to his project. Here's the link:
