Saturday AM forecast

This is going to be a quick post....

First, a plug for the Hood River Waterfront Park, the best damn park in the world. The best place to work on your tan in the middle of summer:  There's a big fundraiser for the Waterfront Park on Saturday night, at the Pines, 7-10 pm. We are raising money for the children’s play equipment, the picnic shelters and solar panels for the bathrooms. $25 gets you appetizers, music and lots of fun. Even if you can't stay, please drop by and kick down

Skiers, snowboarders and freeheelers: 8-12" of new today. 8-12" of new tonight. 8-12" of new tomorrow. Ad infinitum, for next week, at least.

It's not clear at what time the snow will hit the resorts today, but the later in the day you can hit the slopes, the better it will be.

Tomorrow looks like fantastic skiing, if the winds don't shut everything down. We're looking at VERY windy conditions on the slopes, especially later in the day. Along with that, the snow level will be around 4000 feet, meaning that the higher you can get (no, put the bong away, please), the better the snow will be. That's contradictory, because the higher you get (no, damnit, put down the bong. Snowsports and intoxication DO NOT go well together), the windier it will be.

Speaking of snowsports and intoxication... I had a shot of tequila (I'm not much of a beer or wine fan) at Skibowl on Tuesday, and I was absolutely trashed. i tried to ski some more, and although I was laughing the whole time, I couldn't ski at all. I have no idea how you 9am beer slammers function on the slopes...

At this point, I think Monday is going to be the best day of the bunch, not to say today and Sunday won't be good as well, but I know that wind dissuades many of you. Actually, if you want to avoid windy chairlift rides, you're waiting until Tuesday, at least. Don't let wind keep you off the slopes. Storm skiing is awesome!

If you're a telemarker wanting to improve your powder skiing skills, I 100% recommend the clinics at Meadows tomorrow. Really. I already took two of them, and it made a huge difference in my skiing ability. This is not propaganda. If you want to get better, take the clinic and listen to the instructor (that second bit is always the part I have trouble with.)

Anyway... I need to go back to sleep... this isn't making much sense.

All of you have an amazing weekend of skiing, snowboarding, freeheeling, sledding, or whatever it is you do for fun in the snow. I'll see you on the slopes!
