1/24 Forecast

Good news? I've pulled it together to write a forecast this morning. Bad news? The weather just isn't going to be that interesting for the next few days or so.

Skiing at Meadows was fantastic in the sun last week. Strangely enough, I heard all sorts of people complaining about the lack of powder. Geez...

We're looking at a quarter inch or so of precipitation today, max, which translates to a few inches of snow at the mountain. At the surface, we still have easterly pressure gradients. That will keep the Gorge at or near freezing, for the possibility of a couple of inches of snow. It is cold up above, so I don't expect freezing rain today. Just snow.

Windsurfing and kiteboarding winds return tomorrow, with Stevenson seeing 30+ and Rooster seeing 35+.

Best chance for significant snowfall on Mt. Hood comes Tuesday and Wednesday, which have a combined inch or so of precipitable water. Let's all cross our fingers for more snow than that on the slope, becuase it's getting pretty bare up there. Dust on crust is not going to help us out. If the forecast holds for next Saturday (unlikely, of course), we'll see another inch of water falling out of the sky.

I think it's time to do some snow dancing.
