I finally turned on the heat in my house. I have this huge, noisy heater that brings the living room to 80 degrees in 2 minutes, but doesn't touch the rest of the house. So, I'm going with space heater method. I'm actually curled around the space heater writing this.
It's frigid outside. The mountain is 1 degree. 1 degrees? I don't even know how to say that. Basically, it's too cold for me up there. Down here in the Hood it's almost 20 degrees. I was walking around in the snow and wind last night, and it reminded me of being in Tsuruta, Hood River's sister city, in Japan. Exactly the same weather, but for 5 months straight. How did I ever survive? We're adaptable creatures, aren't we?
On to the wind and snow.
For your Nordic skiing pleasure, Teacup is open and groomed.
It's really windy, but you are not going sailing. The wind chill is far below zero, and you stand a good chance of hypothermia if you go in the water when it's this cold. That said, it could be fun to watch the huge gusts - from inside the car. And don't forget about seeing frozen Multnomah Falls. Very pretty.
Next best chance of snow is Wednesday into Thursday. I'm not sure yet how much moisture we'll get with this system, but we're going to see several inches, at least, in Hood River and on the mountain. Sunday is starting to look, in the words of NOAA's Ruthford, "messy".
Stay warm!
