Hi everyone!
Yesterday at the Hatchery was off-the-scale crazy. Waterspouts whirled near the tunnels and 30-foot high walls of spray blasted past the point. 3.2 was a good call for me, but Laura was on a 2.8, Dave Brown used a 3.0, and Rob Warwick went with the 3.7, providing everyone with laughs when he tailwalked across the river in the gusts. Oh wait... we were all tailwalking in the gusts!
It's blowing everywhere right now. Almost everywhere. Mosier looks 30ish on the cam, Arlington's near 30, Maryhill's in the 20's (however, the direction is 282 - not a good sign), but the Hatchery is inexplicably not windy at all. I say inexplicably because gradients are .15, .10 and .30, suggesting we should be sailing in the corridor.
As strong high pressure builds from the coast, winds should fill in at the Hatch. If not, Mosier and Rowena and Arlington will be windy, with averages near 30.
Keep in mind that the high pressure will build across the Northwest this afternoon, causing winds to fade. I suggest sailing between 10 and 2 for strongest conditions. Kiters, you will have wind all day at the Sand Bar, Mosier, Stevenson and Lyle.
Winds will turn easterly on Friday and Saturday, probably blowing in the 22-25 range.
And finally...
Don't forget about the Fashion Show tomorrow night! This is Cathy Carter's fabulously fun and successful fundraiser for the Hood River Christmas Project. It's not just about fashion; it's about an awesome party with over 500 of your best friends. Tomorrow night at 7pm at the Gorge Room at the Hood River Inn. You will be there, because the economic downturn has swelled the rolls of people receiving gifts from the Christmas Projects. Tickets are $15 at downtown clothing stores.
Have a great day!
