Hang out this morning, play golf or go for a ride, but get ready for a bit of wind this afternoon if that’’s your thing. Once an expected front (with expected accompanying high clouds) passes, winds will jump up a bit (just a bit) in the afternoon.
Since you’re probably not going to be on the big river this morning, start with a bike ride. Mitch at Muddy Fingers bike repair says that Falls Creek is a go. now Scattered snow patches along the ride provide added scenery, not long portages.Mitch is my new mountain bike source. He's got this great board on the wall in his shop. It lists all the rides and their status. He gets this plug for promising to deliver the reports directly to me, saving me from riding my bike up 13th every day.
Build your legs and your knackarse on the thigh-burning Lyle-Appleton cutoff ride. This 30 miler will have you screaming for mercy at the top of the Gorge’s steepest, most brutal 7ish mile climb. Your reward? A long downhill cruise on near-perfect pavement.
After decimating your quads, hit the water east of the afternoon cloudline for a bit of 18-22 kiting at Lyle or windsurfing at Doug’s.
Tomorrow brings better windsurfing conditions as a good marine push combined with high pressure off the coast sends afternoon corridor winds into the 22-26 range. I'm calling for tomorrow as the best day of the week. Things are really looking bleak for windsurfing come the weekend.
Last chance for windsports may be Thursday as high pressure takes aim at Oregon. After that, it’s stand-up paddling weather and time to escape the heat in a boat at Lost Lake. The campground isn’t open, but the boats are ready for cruising in the snow-encircled lake. It’s got to be postcard-beautiful up there now. If you’re thinking golf this weekend, start booking those morning tee-times to escape the heat.
