Good morning sailors!
I know you enjoy reading about the weather in the Gorge, so here's an update:
It's windy! Again! Although windspeeds are barely in the twenties, they'll rise as the day goes on. The .15 west gradient guarantees that. Don't look for a super-nuker like Thursday (if Vlado says ok, I'll post the link to his pictures), and don't expect Thursday's warm, sunny weather. Upper level flow is quite northerly, making for gusty conditions at the Hatchery. Call this a summer weather refresher: on northerly days, the Hook and Mosier are the places to be. Anyway, I'll call 30ish at Mosier?Rowena/Doug's and upper 20's in town. If anyone is headed to the Marina for speedsailing, call me!
FYI,
windonthewater.com has a more accurate Rowena sensor. It's reading 24-26 right now.
From today on into the foreseeable future, we're looking at increasing east winds in the Gorge. High pressure and frigid Canadian air filters into Oregon using the Gorge as its secret passageway. As if it's not bad enough that their dollar is on par with ours; now they're sending us their freezing cold air!
I wouldn't be surprised if we see some 50+ averages at Rooster in a couple of days. It's a little problematic that high temperatures are predicted to hover at or below freezing. I'm not sure I can be convinced to sail in those conditions. Laura Green, on the other hand, probably will!
If you do decide to go windsurfing, bundle up and use the buddy system. With water temps at 40 degrees and the air temperature at 38, this is hypothermia weather. Perfect weather to have your favorite site to yourself!
Have a great day!
